Originally from
Chicago, Illionois, Evelyn has been writing, acting, and singing since
the age of seven. Evelyn taught herself every jazz standard there was to
know. By the time she was 19, she had performed at virtually every major
nightclub throughout the midwest United States.
With training
from the Forman School of Dramatic Arts in Chicago, Thomas became an excellent
actress. Before she could expand on her acting career, Evelyn met English
producer/writer Ian Levine who was producing danc music in London.
Traveling almost
immediately to London, she recorded her first dance hit "Weak Spot" (20th
Century Fox) which soon reached number 5 on the British dance charts.
Soon she was
living out her dream. She was aked to perform on one of Britain's top television
shows "Top of the Pops" - where she performed with the likes of Andy Williams,
Glitter Band, and Squeeze. She quickly was touring the UK with a ten-piece
orchestra.
In 1984, Evelyn
recorded the monstrous hit "High Energy," written and produced by Ian Levine
and Friachra Trench, on the Record Shack Records label. High Energy reach
#1 throughout the world, and created a "High Energy" dance craze almost
over night.
Since the mid
1980s, Thomas has recorded many songs, albums, and videos. In 1997, Billboard
magazine charted "Tell The World" by Redemption Featuring Evelyn Thomas.
Today, she
is still performing her dance hits at a variety of different venues, and
is also strongly focused on her Gospel music career. She is involved in
the production of several musicals, and performs as a solo act and with
several music groups.
